Here is a simple neti pot recipe for allergies and sinus congestion relief:
Simple Neti Pot Recipe
-
8 oz reverse osmosis or distilled water
-
1/4 tsp dead sea salt, epsom salt, or magnesium chloride
-
1/4 tsp sea salt
-
1/4 tsp MSM
-
1/8 tsp baking soda
You can add slightly more of each ingredient until the solution reaches a strength that you prefer. More salt will cause the sinus tissues to dry out more and release more mucus, so don’t feel the need to use all of the solution at once, but only continue pouring when you are ready. If you added too much salt and made the solution too strong, you can simply dilute with more distilled/RO water.
For a more precise situation you can use a milligram scale to weigh out salt by weight. Baseline salinity is 0.9% by weight, but you could consider going all the way up to 3% salt by weight for a hypertonic solution. 0.9% salinity can be achieved with about 1/4 tsp sea salt per 8 oz of water. For 1.5% to 3% salinity, add 1/2 to 1 tsp of sea salt per 8 oz water, respectively.
